🌿 Mothers of the Mushroom
Exploring Motherhood, Healing and Psychedelics
Mothers of the Mushroom is a pioneering research project exploring the experiences of mothers who use psychedelic medicines, particularly psilocybin as part of their healing, growth, and conscious parenting journeys.
The project was founded to bring visibility, nuance, and compassion to the often silenced stories of those navigating motherhood with the support of these ancient medicines. It offers a unique glimpse into how microdosing and macrodosing can support emotional regulation, trauma healing, creativity, and deeper connection—to self, to children, and to the natural world.
My Involvement
I am honoured to be a small part of the Mothers of the Mushroom research collective. I helped midwife the project into being, but it is Mikeala De La Myco that mothers this project and Dr James Fadiman has helped to shine a light on it.
My role involves helping translate the emerging findings into accessible education for practitioners, mothers, and those supporting psychedelic parenthood.
In my workshops and trainings, I often draw on this research to illustrate how microdosing can become a practice of conscious mothering by supporting nervous system attunement, compassion, and creativity within family life.
Early Findings
While full results are still being analysed, key themes emerging from the project include:
Reconnection to self: Many mothers describe remembering parts of themselves that felt lost in early motherhood.
Emotional regulation & presence: Microdosing is reported to help mothers feel calmer and more connected with their children.
Spiritual reawakening: Participants often speak of a deepened relationship with nature, intuition, and ancestral lineage.
Breaking taboos: The research highlights how mothers are quietly redefining what healing and responsible medicine use look like.
Why This Work Matters
Psychedelics are rarely discussed in the context of parenting, yet mothers are often at the heart of cultural healing. By gathering real stories and data, Mothers of the Mushroom seeks to inform future education, research, and harm reduction frameworks that honour both the sacred and the scientific.
This project stands at the intersection of research, lived experience, and feminine wisdom, inviting a reimagining of how we view motherhood, medicine, and healing.
Ethics & Legal Note
I am fully compliant with UK laws regarding psychedelic substances. My work focuses on education, harm reduction, integration, and somatic support not on providing or administering illegal substances.
